Hillhead 2024 proved to be a great success for Quarry Manufacturing & Supplies. The leading manufacturer of crushers, screens, spare parts and related equipment for the minerals extractive industries used the show – the world’s largest live quarrying exhibition – to introduce the latest versions of its QMBack and the C3 Complete Crusher Control System. However, the stars of the show for the Coalville based company was a selection of its B-Series cones.
Hillhead is the biggest exhibition of its kind in the world, and as such, was the perfect occasion for QMS to unveil two of its latest game-changing developments as well as display a selection of its leading equipment for the minerals extractive industries. The latest version of QMS’ own brand of crusher backing, QMBack, a solid epoxy resin backing compound was shown alongside other aftermarket solutions including the company’s Complete Crusher Control (C3) System. The latter being an integrated PLC system designed and developed to control all aspects of the crusher operation. But what really drew visitors to the QMS stand was a selection of its award winning B- Series cone crushers.
The QMS designed and built B-Series cone crushers combine robust design and high performance. The range marries high motor power, large throw and higher speed to provide users with high capacities, often greater than other crushers of comparable size. “Our B Series crushers meet exacting product quality demands. The crushers produce material of excellent shape and high quality with setting adjustment being easily made during production in seconds,” explains MD Jonathan Beck.
The unique hydraulic system of the B-Series cone crushers provides automatic overload protection by allowing the head assembly to drop thereby permitting the passage of non-crushable material. The system then automatically returns the head assembly to its original position. This unique design of the hydraulic system means the crusher operates at a definite setting with less setting drift and greater stability throughout the circuit. The crusher setting is instantaneously maintained even after passing a piece of tramp iron.
QMS B-Series crushers are available in standard and XC versions, with the B-Series XC crusher being specifically designed for use in secondary crushing applications. It has very large intake capability and high capacity in relation to its size. This is achieved with a very long crushing chamber. To give optimal operation economy, the long chamber is divided in three sections – upper concave, lower concave and mantle – which can be exchanged at different intervals.
“Replacing a conventional secondary cone crusher with a B-Series XC cone crusher will revolutionize the performance of the whole plant. The setting of the primary crusher can be increased, resulting in higher capacity, lower operating costs, and higher levels of reliability,” adds Beck.
Integral to its operational functionality, the B-Series crusher comes with the latest version of the QMS Complete Crusher Control (C3) as standard with the PLC system controlling all aspects of the crusher operation.
“With the C3, operating the crusher could not be simpler as the automatic start up routine incorporates cavity calibration to compensate for liner wear. Automatic adjustments are made to the crusher setting to give consistent and reliable product shape. Pressure and power in relation to load are automatically adjusted to suit rock properties, moisture etc, with all influencing conditions are taken into consideration, 24 hours a day.
“Furthermore, C3 automatically monitors all health and safety functions providing the operator with information via a touch screen HMI (Human Machine Interface). This screen can be located at the side of the crusher or within a control room via an integrated ethernet connection. The remote touch screen gives full process control, and displays continual real time monitoring of all parameters, and logs all events and alarms. The touch screen PLC also stores pdf versions of all operator manuals, spare parts list, and electrical layouts. C3 also includes the main and auxiliary starters, eliminating the need for any third party electrical equipment. As C3 is an integrated part of the crusher system, it also eliminates nearly all local electrical installation work. The only requirement is for power to be connected,” says Beck.
Although the B-Series cone crushers were stars of Hillhead for QMS, there were other draws to the company’s stand. “We also exhibited samples of our all-encompassing aftermarket parts and services solutions, as well as presenting information and case studies on our holistic aggregate plants. Alongside these, our double deck screen, feeders, and jaw crusher wear parts also drew many enquiries,” says Beck.
Quarry Manufacturing & Supplies also took the advantage of Hillhead 2024 to raise some money for a good cause. “A special thank you to those that had a go on our football challenge, raising vital funds for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity. We would like to thank everyone who came to the Quarry Manufacturing & Supplies stand at Hillhead 2024, and a big thank you for those who participated and contributed to the Rainbow Trust. It shows we can do business and a little good at the same time,” concludes Beck.
