Volvo Trucks celebrated the handover of the first Volvo FH 750hp version 6 XXL cab model in South Africa, to longtime customer, Wardens Cartage.

Wardens Cartage, a Volvo Trucks customer for over two decades, took delivery of the country’s first Volvo FH 750hp Euro 5 6X4 Tractor with full air suspension and a new-generation Globetrotter Version 6 XXL cab. This milestone event was marked by a VIP customer handover ceremony hosted at the prestigious World of Volvo in Gothenburg, Sweden.

For over 47-years, Wardens Cartage has been providing transport solutions to the petroleum and petrochemical industry. This includes the primary and secondary transport of fuels including aviation, fuel oils, oils, lubricants, solvents, alcohols, and food grade products.

Their delivery footprint covers all destinations in South Africa extending to Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi and as far as the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“It is an honour to present Wardens Cartage with this very powerful, new-generation truck,” says Per Erik Lindström, Senior Vice President of Volvo Trucks International. “As a longtime Volvo Trucks customer, it is a great milestone for them and us, to take this unique derivative to South African shores. We know that success starts behind the wheel, and we wish Wardens Cartage many safe and efficient miles.”

Pragasen Govender, General Manager of Wardens Cartage, says taking delivery of the truck was indeed a milestone event in the history of the company.

“It was a proud moment for the company to take ownership of this new addition to our fleet in Gothenburg, the home of Volvo Trucks. We continue to choose Volvo Trucks for several reasons, including its reliability, service delivery and offering, driver and fleet safety as well as cost of ownership. Our relationship with Volvo Trucks continues to strengthen and grow, and in turn, enables us to focus and expand our core business. We value the Volvo Trucks team’s commitment to our success,” explains Govender.

“Businesses have to constantly adapt,” says Nerissa Premlal, the Head of Compliance of Wardens Cartage. “The reality is evident in the responses to new technologies or to the latest customer service trends that are reshaping the business world. But quite often, we are resistant to change, something which comes back to bite us in the end. Without advancement, we can lose our competitive edge and fail to live up to customer expectations. To overcome this, we, at Wardens Cartage, never settle for the status quo.”

“It is said that, it is not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the most responsive to change, and this is what Wardens Cartage prides itself in. Wardens Cartage coming together with Volvo Trucks was the beginning; staying together was the progress. And now this partnership is driven by passion that is fuelling success,” expresses Premlal.

The Volvo FH16 has a 16-litre engine that puts out up to 750 hp, which can pull technical combination weights with ease. The XXL cab offers unparalleled space, comfort, and safety, ensuring that the driver can enjoy a restful, productive, and safe environment in cab.

“The Volvo FH16 is our most powerful truck, made for heavy assignments where extra power and torque is needed. It manages challenging driving environments, which other trucks are unable to complete. The powerful D16 engine and upgraded driver comfort are there to meet our customers’ requirements for productivity and safety,” says Anders Friberg, Director of New Truck Sales at Volvo Trucks South Africa.

“We are a proud business partner of Wardens Cartage as they continue to fulfil a key role in the Southern African transport landscape, and we wish them every success.”
