The reliable measurement of water, rainfall, snow and ice is essential for institutions that require a constant and fool-proof environmental record, backed up by statistical data. This data is used to identify potential heavy rainfall, flash floods, potential cloudburst threats and drought conditions.

“Accurate and precise rainfall measurement data is an imperative for the successful tracking of weather related trends. This data is of particular importance to the agricultural and winemaking sectors in order to plan their scheduling of planting, irrigation, harvesting and cropping. Mining, particularly blasting operations, and general industry rely on weather data so that infrastructure, materials and equipment can be protected and to ensure the safety of personnel,” says Jan Grobler, MD of Senseca South Africa.

“Senseca has introduced its HD2013, HD2015 Tipping Bucket Range and their 400 cm² HD2016 Weighing Rain Gauge instrumentation so that precision rain measurement can be obtained for analysis and which can be loaded to the Cloud for easy access,” he says.

Senseca’s HD2013 device captures precise rain measurement in any weather conditions and its smart design is constructed from corrosion-resistant materials offering a superior lifespan.

For extreme conditions it has an option of integrated heating to provide a reliable performance even in freezing temperatures. This heating facility is automatically triggered at a temperature as low as +4 deg C, thereby eliminating snow build up and ice formations.

A removable filter prevents debris from obstructing the collector, whilst a non-adherent treatment ensures optimal water flow.

Reading of rainfall can be done by using a datalogger such as the rain indicator datalogger HD2013-DB as well as the datalogger of the HD33 series with built-in 4G/3G/GPRS modem for a direct communication of the measured data to our Cloud or to an own secured server.

The HD2015 200 cm² Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge offers all the technical, temperature and design specifications as the HD2013, but has a larger measuring inlet and meets the World Meteorological Association’s specifications. It has a resolution of 0,1-0,2 or 0,5 mm/tip.

The Senseca HD2013 and HD2015 rain gauges are supplied already calibrated and the calibration value (resolution) is shown on the instrument label. An ISO 9001 Calibration report is available upon request.

Both Tipping Bucket Rain gauges can be installed on the ground or raised above the ground.

The Senseca HD2016 400 cm² Weighing Rain Gauge is the ultimate in instrumentation for the detection of the weight of rainfall which is collected by its expansive measurement inlet. The Weighing Rain Gauge is equipped with a cutting-edge load cell sensor situated at the base of its reservoir which ensures precise measurement every time. It has an advanced internal electronic board that process signals in real time and with unmatched reliability.

The device is able to provide data for total rainfall, partial rainfall (from the last reset command or from last reading command), as well as the average rainfall rate in the last minute or in the last hour. The data is saved into a non-volatile memory, which retains the information even during a power failure.

It comes with a sophisticated wind-reducing features and an integrated NTC temperature sensor. The HD2016 delivers stable and accurate measurement in all adverse weather conditions as well as offering reduced maintenance and long operating lifespan.

The Senseca HD2016 is factory calibrated and equipped with a self-diagnostic system and is ready for immediate use, offering an easy installation and operation.

“Whilst the Senseca HD2016 Weighing Rain Gauge is the crème-de-la-crème of sophisticated rain weighing measurement instrumentation, the HD2016 along with the HD2013 and HD2015 devices all offer high quality and pin-point precision measurement data collection. A key feature is the exceptional lifespan of the measurement devices which enhances their reliability. They most certainly offer industry the latest in rain measurement technology that will supply statistical data that is beyond reproach,” concludes Grobler.
