Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is expanding its crawler excavator line-up with the introduction of the new EC130 and EC150 for markets across Africa, the Middle East and Oceania. Designed to maximise fuel efficiency without compromising performance, the machines combine Volvo’s proven positive control hydraulics, intelligent work modes and fuel-saving technologies with the power, reliability and versatility required across a wide range of applications.

Delivering strong digging performance and fast cycle times, the excavators also offer easy serviceability, extended maintenance intervals and a modern operator environment featuring a new 8-inch integrated touchscreen Volvo Co-Pilot display.

“The 13-tonne EC130 and the larger EC150 have been designed around what matters most to our customers – productivity, efficiency, uptime and operator performance,” says Steven Guo, Product Manager at Volvo CE. “The result is two machines that make every drop of fuel count while delivering dependable performance, operator comfort and low operating costs.”

Outstanding fuel efficiency

At the heart of both machines is Volvo’s proven positive control hydraulic system. The intelligent technology in the hydraulic system and main control valve delivers flow according to demand, supporting high productivity, powerful digging and excellent fuel efficiency.

Engine-pump optimisation further reduces fuel consumption while maintaining machine performance. The EC130 can operate at engine speeds as low as 2 000 rpm and the EC150 at 2 200 rpm, while hydraulic pump flow and pressure are continuously adjusted to match load and speed requirements. The EC130 also benefits from a larger pump than the previous generation, further enhancing efficiency.

To suit different applications and site conditions, operators can choose from 10 work modes, helping to optimize the balance between fuel consumption, machine response and cycle times.

Additional fuel savings come from features such as auto engine shut-down and auto idle, which work alongside the efficient Volvo engine and intelligent hydraulics to help reduce operating costs without compromising performance.

Powerful performance for more applications

The EC130 and EC150 are engineered to deliver high controllability, fast response and powerful, dependable digging performance. The EC150 can be equipped with a larger bucket than the previous EC140, enabling customers to move more material per pass and boost productivity on the jobsite.

A wide range of compatible attachments further expands the versatility of both excavators across different applications. A password-protected attachment management system allows operators to preset and adjust hydraulic flow directly from the cab display, with settings for up to 20 attachments stored for fast setup and consistent operation.

Operators can select one-pump or two-pump flow depending on the attachment and application. X1 constant flow and convenient X1 constant-flow preset functions further support efficient operation when working with compatible hydraulic attachments.

The result is a highly versatile pair of machines ready to deliver productive performance across a wide variety of job sites.

Maximum uptime

The EC130 and EC150 are designed to simplify service routines and extend maintenance intervals, helping customers maximize uptime and keep machines working harder for longer. Engine oil, engine oil filters and fuel filters only need to be replaced every 500 hours. The swing reduction gear oil and hydraulic oil service filter follow a 1 000-hour interval, while the hydraulic oil return filter requires replacement every 2 000 hours.

Grouped filters, ground-level service points, quick drain ports, a swing-out air conditioning condenser and centralised greasing points make daily maintenance quick and straightforward. Anti-slip plates and brightly coloured handrails supporting three-point access on the right-hand-side support safe, secure access to the upper structure.

Durability is reflected throughout the design of the EC130 and EC150. High-quality components, durable hydraulic hoses designed to minimize leakage and a high-efficiency air filter for improved engine protection all contribute to reduced wear, minimized downtime and dependable performance in demanding working conditions.

Outstanding operator environment

Continuing Volvo’s long-standing reputation for class-leading excavator cabs, the EC130 and EC150 combine comfort, control and convenience in an environment designed to help operators stay focused, safe and productive throughout the working day.

The new 8-inch integrated touchscreen Volvo Co-Pilot display brings key machine functions together in one intuitive interface. Easy-to-use menus help operators navigate essential settings and functions, making it simple to configure the machine for the task at hand.

A range of seat and joystick options allows the cab to be configured to operator preference, while convenient storage, phone connection through the cab display, cup holders, wireless phone charging and USB sockets provide modern convenience and enhanced comfort.
