In a sad development for the local cement and concrete industry, Cement & Concrete SA (CCSA) has announced the decision to wind down its operations, effective April 1, 2024.
In a statement, Hanlie Turner, business development manager at CCSA, explains that the reason for taking this step is that the cost of running the organisation has become unaffordable because of the challenges facing the broader construction industry, especially the significant reduction in infrastructure investment in South Africa.
Turner says a new cement industry board will continue to deal with critical issues such as quality standards, cement imports, carbon tax, electricity and rail infrastructure, to ensure a sustainable industry.
