Built from proven Cat 16 and 16H components, the new Cat 16 GC motor grader combines reliable operation with a lower acquisition price that helps to reduce owning and operating costs.
Its design features familiar steering wheel and lever controls to provide consistent, precise blade control for haul road construction and maintenance. With its 4,9-m moldboard, the versatile new 16 GC is sized matched for haul-road maintenance for construction, quarry and mining operations using truck fleets up to 91 tonnes.
With its net 249 kW (334 hp) rating, the durable Cat C13 engine delivers the power to efficiently get the job done and meets U.S. EPA Tier 3 and EU Stage IIA equivalent emissions standards. Standard ECO mode operation on the grader increases fuel economy by up to 5%. Its on-demand fan further reduces fuel consumption and dissipates under-hood heat to increase component longevity.
Electronic throttle control for the new 16 GC matches engine power and torque to application demands, making for more productive and fuel-efficient haul road clearing. Offering eight forward and six reverse speeds to select the right gear for the job, its powershift transmission provides smooth shifting and allows for quick directional changes with the new ergonomic shifter. Its differential lock provides added traction when working in loose material.
The new grader’s fast, accurate and balanced hydraulic controls allow operators to quickly achieve targets for well-maintained roads and reduced rework. An in-cab display keeps operators informed by providing quick access to critical operating data, including current and requested gear, machine and engine speed, and articulation angle. An optional digital blade slope meter aids in maintaining consistent surface slope for accurate grading without the need for personnel on the ground for manual grade checking.
Built for long life with reinforced structures, the 16 GC features an adjustable drawbar circle moldboard that aids in maintaining factory tight settings with shimmable draftball, circle and blade wear strips. Hardened circle teeth and replaceable wear inserts increase the durability of the drawbar circle moldboards.
The standard slip clutch helps to protect the circle drive if the moldboard encounters an immovable object. Standard blade lift accumulators absorb impact loads from the moldboard to help protect the ground engagement tools and front frame from potential damage.
A range of options helps to customise the new 16 GC to meet specific site needs and increase the grader’s versatility. The available push block improves machine performance and efficiency, while optional rippers assist when grading in hard ground site conditions. Optional guarding – bottom and front axle guards – help to protect the machine from damage for rugged reliability in the most demanding applications.
Leveraging the design and components of other Cat machines, the new 16 GC boasts interchangeable components with the Cat 16H, 16M and 16 Motor Graders. Commonality of service parts with multiple Cat machines plus easy access for service and repair increases efficiency for maintaining the 16 GC. Cat Electronic Technician connects to the machine’s Electronic Control Modules (ECM) to simplify electronic troubleshooting.
Allowing companies to remotely monitor the 16 GC’s performance, the new Cat Product Link Elite gathers and displays a range of machine performance and health information from the engine, transmission, and control and guidance system. Where available, Remote Troubleshoot allows the dealer to remotely run machine diagnostic testing while the machine is in operation to decrease downtime. Remote Flash allows the dealer to send software updates to the machine, so the 16 GC operates with the most current software to optimize equipment performance and productivity.
Grouped filters deliver easy access for preventative maintenance, while the optional autolube system reduces daily greasing requirements and potential costly repairs to critical joints. Optional service lighting helps with better visibility in low light conditions. Helping to extend component service life, the 16 GC features delayed engine shutdown to allow for proper cooling.
