Wacker Neuson South Africa has expanded reinforced its presence in Mpumalanga with the appointment of Welgro Engineering and Mining Supplies, a trusted provider of industrial and construction equipment solutions that has served the region for 40 years.

Playing a vital role in the national economy, Mpumalanga is central to Wacker Neuson’s dealer expansion strategy, with the company’s approach anchored around three key hubs – Mbombela, eMalahleni and Secunda – and aligned with the industries driving growth across the province.

As part of this strategy, Wacker Neuson conducted a detailed assessment to identify a dealer capable of delivering immediate customer value through a strong service ethos, technical expertise and established market reach. The process ultimately identified a partner closely aligned with Wacker Neuson’s vision.

Welgro’s alignment with Wacker Neuson’s values of reputation, trust and respect, together with strong recommendations from multiple industry contacts, prompted Wacker Neuson to initiate discussions.

“Welgro’s established sales network, fully equipped workshop and service infrastructure, together with its proven track record across the mining, engineering, construction and agricultural sectors, made the partnership the natural choice,” says Eric Berrington, Wacker Neuson’s Regional Manager for Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

“The dealership also represents several respected international brands that demand a high standard of technical expertise and after-sales support, giving us further confidence in Welgro’s ability to successfully support customers over the long term,” adds Berrington.

“Welgro Engineering and Mining Supplies has built its business on long-term relationships, practical product knowledge and dependable service, with a steadfast focus on first understanding each customer’s operation before recommending the right solution to support sustainable operations,” affirms Kyle Handley, MD of Welgro.

“Because every site and operation faces unique pressures, from production deadlines to safety requirements and downtime challenges, we adopt a hands-on, consultative approach, supporting customers with a wide range of industrial and construction solutions, backed by experienced sales and technical staff and a well-equipped workshop,” adds Handley.

Kyle outlines several reasons why Welgro was eager to partner with Wacker Neuson, beginning with the quality and reliability of its products, which he notes are decisive factors in purchasing decisions. Customers want high-performing, dependable equipment that helps optimise their operations, and he highlights Wacker Neuson’s machines as well-engineered, robust and built for tough working environments.

Wacker Neuson’s strong reputation in construction, plant hire and infrastructure development further reinforced the appeal, supported by a solid base of machines already operating across Welgro’s service area, where customers value the brand’s consistency and long-term dependability. Equally important, Handley highlights operator usability. “The machines are practical, intuitive and productivity-driven – qualities that resonate with operators.”

Under the dealership agreement signed in Q1 2026, Welgro will supply Wacker Neuson’s full range of compact machines, including mini excavators, telehandlers and wheel loaders; construction equipment, including pumps and lighting towers; compaction equipment, including rammers and plate compactors; concrete technology, including external vibrators; and other specialised worksite solutions. The range is positioned to support the diverse requirements of customers across the construction, agricultural, mining and related industries.

“Our immediate focus is on building a strong, reliable offering around Wacker Neuson’s products already in demand locally, expanding the range over time in line with customers’ changing requirements,” says Handley. “Compact machines and equipment are especially well-suited to the market, with the capability to perform efficiently in confined spaces – a quality that is highly valued across the sectors.

“We also expect to see strong demand for lighting towers, particularly in mining, where reliable site illumination is critical for safety and productivity. Compaction equipment remains a cornerstone category for contractors and infrastructure projects. There are also compelling growth prospects for electric and zero-emission equipment, and we are ready to introduce more of Wacker Neuson’s electric product ranges to support customers with sustainable, efficient, environmentally conscious and forward-looking solutions.”

Welgro will provide customers with comprehensive aftersales support, including maintenance, servicing and repairs, across the full Wacker Neuson range. Kyle emphasises how critical uptime is in the industries they serve, noting that when equipment is down, productivity is under pressure. Responsive support and fast turnaround are therefore essential, and the company provides full technical backing to ensure maximum uptime throughout the lifecycle of its equipment.

To reinforce this commitment, Welgro has introduced a dedicated service crew to handle on-site servicing and breakdowns for large construction equipment, complemented by in-house repairs at its workshop. “At the end of the day, customers want the assurance that investing in equipment also means investing in reliable backup and support, a responsibility we take very seriously.”

In line with Wacker Neuson’s close dealer collaboration, aimed at building a strong foundation for sustainable growth and customer support, Welgro will be equipped with product availability, market insights and technical expertise to confidently represent the brand in the region. This encompasses strategic stock planning and parts support, underpinned by comprehensive product training to continually strengthen sales and technical teams.

“We aim to empower Welgro to deliver a seamless customer experience – from initial machine selection through to long-term ownership and support,” says Berrington.
